Neil's latest feature for THE LONDON WORD concerns a 'mermaid', once allegedly brought to the capital from the USA and exhibited by a Captain Eades. This bizarre tale may not prove that these mythological beasts exist, but certainly goes to show how the public have always had a hunger for local mystery.
